With the lack of evidence collected at the crime scene, it isn’t fair to say that Jeffrey Macdonald is guilty. Innocent until PROVEN guilty obviously wasn’t the case in this trial. There are however, some parts that were left out that could’ve actually turned the whole case around. Sure there is no direct evidence, but there is no direct evidence on either side. He was sent to jail simply because there was no one else to blame and that’s who they suspected did it. One must legitimately be proven guilty to be punished; therefore, Jeffrey Macdonald was wrongly accused.

Jurors were all over Macdonald from the start; saying that his wounds were self-inflicted, and that since he was a surgeon, he could do it without harming himself. They told the public this and that the injuries were not serious, they believed it (http://www.themacdonaldcase.org/Case_Facts.html). But when actually tested, the wounds turned out to be extremely serious as he had a collapsed lung and he could’ve died easily. This little bit just shows how ignorant everyone is when they don’t know anything about the topic. The public and jury could’ve been told anything and they would believe it. This unfortunately probably wasn’t the last time everyone was lied to. Any other time it probably got past the jury and judge unnoticed that it was a lie.

` So what exactly happened to the Macdonald’s house after the murder, it seems to have never been brought up in court or controversy. Well, for the next eleven years, the apartment was kept sealed by the department of justice. When the defense attorneys tried accessing it to obtain evidence that would help Jeffrey Macdonald, they were denied. Why? This is another act by the government to keep Macdonald from being proven innocent. When this controversy was brought up, the government was quick to hide behind the law and burn everything inside (http://www.themacdonaldcase.org/Case_Facts.html).

Those are all conspiracies of course; now let’s get down to the facts, the faulty and disproved evidence of the case. A good place to start would be the palm print, investigators observed a bloody palm print at the foot board of Jeffrey and Colette’s bed. After testing it, it didn’t match anyone’s handprint in the family, or even the investigation team. Next is the bloody footprint; this was a key piece of evidence used to send Jeffrey Macdonald to jail. With a closer look, it is today obvious that the footprint wasn’t made during the murder, it was after when he struggled off the gurney to get into his daughter’s rooms. Three eye-witnesses prove this. If you can’t rely on an eye-witness, just note that when the footprint was collected, the blood was still wet. It doesn’t take that long for a thin layer of blood to dry (http://www.karisable.com/mac4.htm).

What’s done is done and he already served his time. Right or wrong it already happened, but this case is still big today because we need to be 100% positive an innocent person won’t get blamed and punished like this in the future. The government obviously hid a lot in this investigation, and we need to make sure they don’t have that kind of power in the future. The United States owes a great apology to Jeffrey Macdonald, as more and more evidence pops up proving him innocent everyday.
Due to insufficient as well as inconclusive evidence, I find Jeff MacDonald innocent. Although each side has their own story and points to back up their views, many articles of evidance should have been presented, but weren't even accounted for. Not only that, but the investigating team was in and out of the crime scene, destroying evidence. Along with destroying evidence, they didn't collect other pieeces when they should have, and moved other vital objects. Instead of taking care of the evidence when initially found, the team moved, used, or regretted to even record it. Becuase most of the vital evidence was destroyed, the court couldn't exactly make a convincing story against MacDonald. The wounds that were said to be inflicted on himself would have been extremely hard to do to oneself. They wree dangerous, and wouldn't be easy to pull off without killing himself. There was also Helena Stoeckley. She was said to have been seen around the time of the crime scene, in an alley a few blocks from the home. But when reported by Mica, the 1st luitenant ordered him to not mention seeing her, and also didn't order an investigation on her. On multiple occasions, Stoeckley claimed to know what happened that night adn could describe the crime scene in detail along with the apartment. She was willing to give her full confession, in return for her immunity but the government refused. The defense attorney wasn't premitted to review the crime scene until days before the trial, and they were unable to gain valid evidence to prove he was innocent. Becuase much evidence was either destroyed or not collected, the defense attorney wasn't promitted to the crime scene, and many key parts to the story were looked over, I believe MacDonald is innocent. The government shouldn't have ruled him guilty without proper evidence to back the theories up, and without all this evidence it would have been hard for the defense attorney to even make a claim.
